Samuel Goldwyn Films picks up Dave Stevens documentary, out Dec 2nd
The feature documentary Dave Stevens: Drawn to Perfection—with an original score composed and produced by Paul Terry—has been picked up by Samuel Goldwyn Films. The film and soundtrack will both be released on Dec 2nd. Its official trailer is out now:
The authorized feature documentary is about the life and art of Dave Stevens, the creator of The Rocketeer who also reintroduced the world to 1950's pin-up model Bettie Page. Stevens' comic book series The Rocketeer was adapted into the beloved feature film starring Billy Campbell and Jennifer Connelly. Working with luminaries like Joe Johnston, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Jack Kirby, Stevens was widely considered one of the best illustrators of his generation.
The film is directed/produced by Kelvin Mao (10 Minutes Gone), produced/edited by Rob Chatlin (The Water of Life), executive produced by Robert Windom (Stars Fell on Alabama), and associated produced by Stevens' sister Jennifer Bawcum. The 99-minute film was shot over two years, with 35 interviews, over 80 hours of footage, and thousands of photos and artworks scanned. Its 2022 release celebrates the 40th anniversary of the comic-book debut of The Rocketeer.
Dave Stevens: Drawn to Perfection will be released by Samuel Goldwyn Films for download and rental on Friday Dec 2nd. In addition, a limited edition Blu-ray of the film can be pre-ordered exclusively here, where you can also pre-order a range of other official film merchandise including: a brand new The Rocketeer anthology comic-book, T-shirt, poster, crew hat, lanyard, stickers, and more.
Paul Terry's complete 48-track Dave Stevens: Drawn to Perfection (Original Soundtrack) will be released on all music platforms on Friday Dec 2nd. It is mixed by Jim Cushinery and mastered by award-winning mastering engineer Alex Wharton (Paul McCartney, Radiohead) at Abbey Road Studios. Here is an exclusive first look at the cover art—it features illustrations of The Rocketeer and Bettie Page by Dave Stevens and is designed by Serban Cristescu (Futurama, Disenchantment).
